1931 - All Quite On The Western Front

Melody Says...
One of the quotes at the beginning of the movies says something like, "some soldiers escape the war without the wounds but are still paralyzed by war". This movie followed a group of soldiers who were excited to go to war and showed more of the affects of war on them then actual war it self. Even though I thought this movie did a good job of telling the story it give it a triple.

Jacob Says...
It's going back, way back, to the wall. HOME RUN!!! A truly great movie with multiple moving scenes of different responses to war. It explores the idea and actuality, the zeal and the sobriety, and the patriotism and the common humanity of war. Even though this movie is from another age, it is the definition of a quality film.

Movie Sleeper

This thing is going to be harder than I thought. We watched our second movie (the post isn't up yet because Jacob still needs to write his review). I watched it in two sittings, again, but before Jacob throws me under the bus I want to admit that I sent the movie back with out watching the whole thing. I'm going to blame it on the pregnancy, not the movie that I couldn't stay awake (twice). I got enough of the message to write the review but did not watch the whole thing, so there, is that cheating?

I'm going to have to watch some other movies in between "The Best" just to keep this thing alive, I had to watch something else besides 1930's films. So last night, I watched "Up In The Air", I stayed awake the whole time and actually really liked it. So is it the pregnancy or the movies why I can't stay awake...

1930 - The Broadway Melody

Melody Says....

If I'm going to do this thing, I got to keep an open mind right? I had a hard time staying awake through this black and white musical. I actually ended up watching it in two sittings because I couldn't stay awake. This story showed the affects that Broadway can have on relationships. I appreciated the older sisters love for her younger sister and the care she had for her. I give this movie a double.

Jacob Says…

I give this movie a single. The best part of the movie was Hank’s (the older sisters) selfless love for her Queenie (the younger sister). Outside of the relationship between Hank and Queenie, this story was corny and had times of major lulls.

Our Rating System

We came up with our own rating system. Here's how it goes.

Home Run
Triple
Double
Single
Strike Out

If you know baseball, this is pretty easy to understand. We will give our rating of each movie and tell a little bit about what we liked/disliked about the movie or just our thoughts on it.

The Idea

My husband knows I love movies. In his awesome attempt to get on board with my hobby, he came up with the idea to journey through watching all of the movies that have ever been granted the title of "Best Picture". I was of course super excited about this and thanks to Netflix we have the capacity to do so.

Since we are going to be watching all of these "Best Pictures" we want have to a way to rate them. So our next task, how to rate them...
